LAGOS CBD PLANS TOWARDS ‘EMBER MONTHS’
The Office of the Special Adviser to the Government on Central Business Districts has finalised plans to organise a seminar aimed at harmonising and synergising the operations of all government security agencies operating within the Lagos Island Central Business Districts towards effective service delivery.
The Special Adviser, Prince Olarenwaju Elegushi, who disclosed this in Ikeja recently said there is the need to reduce areas of friction amongst government agencies operating within the Lagos Island Central Business District enclave.
Speaking on the planned workshop, the Special Adviser said the workshop slated to hold in the last Thursday of September, is geared towards making all agencies of government operating with the CBD see themselves as one and to ensure that hitches or other security challenges associated with the high influx of shoppers and traders into the island during the “ember” months are curtailed and well managed.
He stressed that all agencies of government must work in harmony and unity of purpose to attain the desired goals of making shopping and trading on the island stress-free.
Elegushi said “over three million shoppers and traders commute the Lagos Island daily and this number is expected to increase as we are in the “ember” months; therefore the high influx of people brings its attendant security, waste, traffic and emergency issues which only one agency cannot handle. We must, therefore, harmonise our operations to meet the attendant large volume of issues daily”.
He stated that from November 1, 2018, CBD, in conjunction with other government agencies, will embark on massive joint patrol of CBD enclaves to ensure that traffic, waste and security challenges are addressed.
Elegushi disclosed that operatives, drawn from the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps, LASTMA, the Nigeria Police, LAWMA, LASEMA Response Unit, VISIONSCAPE and the CBD Corps are expected to make a presentation at the workshop on their strategies and plans for a hitch-free period.
