INDEPENDENCE DAY: AMBODE URGES NIGERIANS TO VOTE FOR THE COLLECTIVE GOOD

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has called on all Nigerians to vote in the coming general elections based on “what is ideal for the collective good of the nation”, just as he thanked Lagosians for their support and for keeping faith with his programmes and policies in the last three years of his administration,

In a message read on his behalf by the Head of Service, Mrs. Folasade Adesoye, to Lagosians at the Police College Parade Ground, G. R. A, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, during the October 1^st Parade to commemorate the 58^th National Independence Day celebration, Ambode implored Nigerians, especially the youths, to take up the mantle of making “Nigeria great again”, and look beyond the slogan “if you can’t beat them, join them.”

The Governor urged the youths to “always stand up for what is right, fair and just” and that they should not allow themselves to be used by mischievous politicians to cause havoc in the society during the forthcoming elections”.

He stated further that Nigerians must use their numerical power to elect those who have what it takes to move our nation forward on the path of sustainable growth and development, maintaining that the present administration would continue to be a shining example in progressive and inclusive governance and that citizens must continue to work hard to sustain the mutual trust and confidence between the government and the people.

Ambode commended governments across all levels, as well as other well-meaning Nigerians for exhibiting the spirit of brotherhood, for their perseverance and spirit of togetherness that had kept the nation together since independence in 1960, 58 years ago when the founding fathers, of our beloved nation, led us out of the chains of colonial oppression.

He, therefore, encouraged Nigerians to forge ahead in the task of nation-building, renew their faith and continue to believe in “our dear nation as this is our place of comfort, our home and motherland”.Present at the event were the State Commissioner of Home Affairs, Dr. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef; Lagos Commissioner of Police, Mr. Edgar Imohimi; Body of Permanent Secretaries; White Cap Chiefs and other dignitaries.
