IPAKODO GRAMMAR SCHOOL WINS QUIZ COMPETITION

The duo of Augustine Jude and Ogunlade Iyanu of Ipakodo Senior Grammar School, Ikorodu have emerged winners in the Senior Secondary school category of the maiden edition of the Quiz Competition for Children with Special Needs in Lagos State.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the competition, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye said the Competition was designed to develop the minds of the children as well as create healthy rivalry amongst the Special Schools and Inclusive Units.

She added that the performance of the participants in the maiden edition of the competition has underscored the need to increase awareness of the gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of academic, political, social, economic and cultural life.

In her words, “This new Quiz Competition was introduced to give the physically challenged children in all our Special Schools and inclusive Units, a sense of belonging. I will like to implore all parents who have children living with disabilities to register them in Special Schools so that the government can help them realise their full potentials”.

Adekanye reaffirmed the resolve of the Lagos State Government at integrating students living with disabilities into the society; to empower them with skills that could instil confidence in them, such that they can contribute their quota to national growth, as well as take advantage of the unique opportunity.

She commended all students who participated in the competition and urged them never to feel rejected or dejected as the State government is determined to help them achieve their full potentials.

While commending the teachers and handlers of the children for selflessly taking care of them and preparing them for the quiz competition, Adekanye urged them not to relent in their efforts, charging them to be more committed, innovative confident and proactive to contribute their quota to National development.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Director, Child Guidance, School Counseling and Special Education, Mrs. Ketimu Musa applauded the participating schools for their boldness, self-confidence and self-esteem exhibited during the preliminaries to the final stage.

She, however, charged the participants to be focused, urging them to put more efforts in the coming edition.All the participating schools and winners were given trophies, gifts and certificates of participation.
