LASG CONDUCTS SAFETY RISK ASSESSMENT OF MDAs

The Lagos State Safety Commission today conducted a safety risk assessment of the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy premises amongst others, in order to identify potential and prevailing hazards with a view to proffering recommendations, where necessary, to mitigate the risks.The Director General of the Commission, Mr. Hakeem Dickson, said the exercise was conducted as part of its mandate to make safety a lifestyle in Lagos, as well as in view of the need for government to assess itself just as it conducts similar exercises in other organisations.

While noting that a lot of people go to work every day with inherent hazards which can lead to injuries, accidents and even death, he reiterated that the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led administration is concerned about the safety of all Lagosians including the public Servants, thus necessitating the conduct of safety activities by the Commission.

In his words, “Unknown to many, there are lots of safety hazards inherent in the workplace which could lead to grievous injuries accidents and even death, we do not want anyone to be harmed or to die in the workplace, therefore, we will continue to sensitise them on safety”.

Part of the assessment includes the sitting arrangement (ergonomics), fire hazards, trip, slip and fall hazards, clusters, poor housekeeping, poor lighting, overcrowding and fire extinguishers amongst others.

He declared that the Safety Commission as a responsible Agency will continue to sensitise the Public on safety in order to ensure a safe environment where everybody can carry out their business without fear.
