LAGOS STATE COLLEGE OF NURSING, MIDWIFERY AND PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING PRODUCES 198 GRADUANDS

One Hundred and Ninety-Eight fresh graduates have emerged from the Lagos State College of Nursing Midwifery and Public Health, Igando.

The new graduates according to the State Governor were trained to complement government’s efforts and its vision of developing human capital for the health sector.

Governor Ambode who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, Dr. Shamsideen Allison at the convocation ceremony within the premises of the College recently at Igando, assured Lagosians that the State Government will try to secure accreditation for the college through the Nigerian Council of Nursing Service and Midwifery in order to make it a first class higher institution in the country

He listed the categories of the 198 graduands to include 78 graduates from School of Nursing, 51 from Midwifery and 69 from Public Health Nursing.

Lagos State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Jide Idris represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Olufemi Taiwo congratulated the graduants and the entire management of the College for the achievements already recorded so far.

He counseled the graduands to be good ambassadors of the school, keep to the ethics of the profession to care for people, both sick and healthy and uphold the pledge they made to serve humanity

The Acting Provost, Mrs Oyefunsho Orenuga who delivered a welcome address at the occasion, thanked the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode who signed the bill that made the school to become a college.

She maintained that the nursing profession remains relevant and most sought out for worldwide, “Nursing as we all know is a dignified and respected profession and one that can never go out of style. According to research studies on prospect in nursing career, it has been revealed that the world will be in need of about 800,000 nurses by the year 2025. So, talk of prospect, among other many career, nursing is it.”

She explained that the College is expected to run a 4 year programme with a one year ineternship awarding a National and Higher National Diploma whose administrative supervision will be under the Office of the Special Adviser for Education.

“The joint convocation of the college is the first since the law establishing the college was passed on the 8th of April 2018 before it was latter signed by the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode,” the Acting Provost stated.

The event also witnessed certificates presentation to seven best graduants in different categories.
