LAGOS GRADUATES 15 TRAINEES WITH DISABILITIES IN DIFFERENT VOCATIONS

The Lagos State Government has graduated 15 trainees from its Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with Disabilities in different vocations.

While presenting the vocational tools and empowerment grant to the trainees at the Vocational and Rehabilitation Centre for Persons with Disabilities in Owutu, Ikorodu, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Agboola Dabiri, said the State Government is committed to training and empowering of youths, including the vulnerable ones so they can be useful to themselves and the society at large.

According to the Commissioner, the vocational tools and take-off grants given to the graduands would enable them become independent and self-reliant individuals within their respective families and communities.Dabiri affirmed that “Lagos State Office of Disability (LASODA) is a testimony of the willingness and decision of the government to ensure equal access to opportunities by all citizens; the government will continue to do all that is necessary to remove barriers to trainees creating an inclusive and accessible society for all”.

He called on Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Corporate Organisations to continue to collaborate and support the State government in creating opportunities for persons with disabilities in order to make the best out of their lives.

On his own part, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola said the State government is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities are trained in a vocation of their choice, assisted with working tools and given take-off grant to become self-reliant.

Muri-Okunola enjoined parents, guardians and graduands to invest all the tools and grants given to them in their vocational business and to desist from any act of selling them to solve family problems.

Earlier, the Principal of the Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, Oke Olamide, said the graduation ceremony of the trainees is the beginning of a journey to a celebrated and fulfilling life for the graduands who have achieved a great feat despite the challenges they had faced.
