LASPARK TAKES TREE PLANTING CRUSADE TO CAR PARKS

In furtherance to achieving an inclusive participation on tree planting towards healthy living and societal well-being as well as to improve the aesthetic of the State, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) has taken the crusade of greening to owners of parking lots, imploring them to adorn their car lots with trees.

According to a statement released by the General Manager of the Agency, Mrs. Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola, the State government is mandating owners of parking lots to plant trees in order to curtail the adverse effects of climate change occasioned by carbon monoxide from vehicles.

She said “It has become imperative to engage owners of parking lots and open spaces across the State in propagating the greening initiative towards mitigating the effect of natural challenges, considering the increasing pressure on the environment as a result of the daily commercial and social activities”.

According to her, public and private institutions like, schools, churches, mosques, banks, restaurants, event centres, shopping malls and other establishments have a responsibility to create facilities that accommodate trees to improve the atmospheric condition of the State.

“As government continues to take stock of the rapid investment and business opportunities springing across the State, it is not losing sight of the human and environmental implications of these socio-economic initiatives, it is on these grounds that LASPARK is propagating the value of trees in our surroundings as a buffer to the ecosystem”, she added.

Emphasising the significance of the campaign, the General Manager revealed that in complementing the implementation of the Greening Policy of the State Government, all institutions across the State must align with the standard of a safe environment, stating that the simplest way to attain this is by planting trees.

“This will further increase the green area coverage in the State thereby purifying the air and improving the aesthetic value of the environment”, she asserted.

The General Manager also restated that the greener campaign is a rewarding exercise, which protects our future against natural disasters, creates an amiable environment that is appealing to the sense of decency and stimulates economic prosperity.

She affirmed that the Agency is well positioned to provide strategic support to facilitate compliance, submitting that LASPARK has adequate resources to help in the propagation of the greening programmes.
