2018 PILGRIMAGE: LASG URGES INTENDING PILGRIMS TO PRAY FOR SUCCESSFUL 2019 ELECTION

 

Lagos State Government has urged residents of the State who are participating in this year’s holy pilgrimage to Jerusalem to pray for God’s intervention in the affairs of the country, especially for the successful outcome of the 2019 general elections in February 2019.

The Board Secretary of Lagos State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mrs. Yetunde Gbafe gave the advice on Monday during the air-lifting of the first batch of the intending pilgrims to Jerusalem.

She reminded the pilgrims to note that the popular biblical injunction “Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper” was synonymous to seeking the country’s peace and well-being of all residents.

Gbafe said that it was expedient for the pilgrims to use the opportunity of the pilgrimage to beseech God to choose a crop of leaders with genuine and godly intentions for the masses in next year elections, noting that the peace of Nigeria would invariably translate to peace in individual homes.

She also urged the intending pilgrims to emulate Christ in totality and eschew all forms of ungodly attitudes, saying “Imbibe the humility of Jesus Christ, be Christ-like and make His Lifestyle your own lifestyle as well; with this, Lagos State and indeed Nigeria will be a better place for us all”.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters, Dr. Kolawole Verrals underscored the need for the intending pilgrims to see the journey as a purely spiritual journey and not as an adventure.

He called on those participating in the pilgrimage to be conscious of the fact that they are representing Lagos State and Nigeria and as such should desist from any act that would tarnish the overall image of the country.

“Have this consciousness in you that you are representing the State of Excellence and you must ensure that the culture of excellence is portrayed in all you say and do throughout your stay in Jerusalem and thereafter”, Verrals declared.
