YULETIDE: LAGOS CBD HOLDS WORKSHOP FOR OPERATIVES

 

As part of preparations by the Lagos State Government to ensure a hitch-free festive season, the Office of the Central Business Districts has organised a harmonisation and sensitisation programme for all security operatives and government agencies operating within the Lagos Island Central Business District enclaves.

Speaking at the workshop tagged “Effective Team Work among Government Security, Traffic and Emergency Agencies in Lagos”, Special Adviser to the Governor on CBD, Prince Olarenwaju Elegushi, said that all government agencies must see themselves as one and must be fully ready to ensure that hitches and other security challenges associated with the influx of shoppers and traders towards the end of the year are curtailed and well managed.

He stressed that all agencies of government must work in harmony and unity of purpose to attain the desired goals of making shopping and trading on Lagos Island stress-free.

According to him, “Over 3 million shoppers and traders commute the Lagos Island daily and this number is expected to double during the yuletide. Therefore, the influx of people brings its attendant security, waste, traffic and emergency issues which cannot be effectively handled by any single Agency. We must, therefore, synchronise our operations to meet the attendant large volume of issues daily”.

He disclosed that CBD, in conjunction with other government agencies, will form a committee that will embark on a massive joint patrol of CBD enclaves to ensure that traffic, waste management and security challenges are promptly addressed.

Participants at the event drawn mainly from LASTMA, Police, LAWMA, LASEMA Response Unit, Lagos State Fire Service, Lagos State Environmental Services and CBD Enforcement Corps agreed on the need for proper harmonisation of their respective functions for effective service delivery in the Lagos Island Central Business District.
