SSG CHARGES AUDITORS TO STEP UP FEEDBACK MECHANISM FOR MONITORING, SURVEILLANCE

 The Secretary to the Lagos State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello on Monday charged Auditors in the State Public Service to step up their feedback mechanism with capacity building for monitoring and surveillance.

 

The SSG, who spoke through the  Permanent Secretary, Cabinet/SSG Office, Mr. Adesina Odeyemi at the 9th Annual Auditors’ Retreat, themed: “Effective Public Sector Auditing: Catalyst for good Governance And Economic Development”,  at the Dover Hotel, Lekki, added that MDAs must avoid a repetition of actions arising from annual audit queries.

 

“The culture of regular collective consultation amongst staff and the need to improve on their interaction with each other in order to take full advantage of group dynamics must be imbibed”, he stated.

 

He said the main role of auditing in the Public Service is to uncover misappropriation of funds and provide evidence of a substantive reduction in missing expenditure, stressing that the retreat will avail the participants a collective insight into challenges encountered in the year 2018 and also provide the platform to harness solutions that would foster a more productive system through the application of best practices in audit management.

 

Bello urged all attendees to participate fully in all sessions, hoping that their positive interaction will enhance productivity in the Office of the State Auditor-General.

 

Earlier in her welcome address, the State Auditor-General, Mrs. Morenike Deile said the retreat was meant to educate auditors on their roles, as well as avail them the opportunity to handle challenges in their MDAs and be seen as strategic partners, rather than investigators.

 

In his remarks, the Chairman, Audit Service Commission, Alhaji Waliu Onibon advised participants to be of good character at all times in order to be better auditors and managers of public funds.
