LAGOS HoS COMMENDS CITIZENS’ MEDIATION CENTRE FOR EFFICIENT SERVICE DELIVERY
The Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has commended the Citizens’ Mediation Centre for its effective service delivery to the residents of Lagos State.
Muri-Okunola, who gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by the management of the Citizens’ Mediation Centre to his Office, noted that he has been following the activities of the Centre and observed its impact in reducing the number of cases presented at the Courts, adding that minor disputes are being settled faster to prevent degeneration into chaos and disharmony in the State.
He, therefore, encouraged the management of the Centre not to rest on its oars in further managing and resolving disputes among residents, stressing that Lagos is a socio-economic hub that has become home to all.
Earlier, the Director of the Centre, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi congratulated the Head of Service on his appointment while praying for wisdom and vibrancy to lead the entire State civil service, emphasizing that his appointment is an inspiration to the youth.
Rotimi hinted that the art of mediation has become globally acclaimed and accepted as the fastest means to resolving all manner of disputes and suggested that there is a need for the introduction of mediation activity in the civil service to curb a lot of social and mental disorders currently being experienced in the society as a result of conflicts both at home and in the workplace.
While noting that training of officers in the civil service can be introduced to mitigate workplace generated conflicts, she opined that the Centre, which renders free mediation and legal advice services, has so far resolved about 30,000 cases out of a total of 47, 952 received.
