LAGOS COMMENDS NIMASA FOR RELIEF ASSISTANCE

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has expressed gratitude to the officials of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) for its relief assistance to the victims affected by mishaps in Lagos State.

The General Manager, LASEMA, Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu stated this while receiving relief items donated by the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) to victims of the collapsed building on Massey Street Ita-Faaji and former residents of some distressed buildings being demolished on Lagos Island.

Tiamiyu assured that the donated items will be evenly distributed to all the affected victims, adding that the numbers of victims at the temporary camp has risen from the initial 200 to more than 700 victims, but scaled down to over 400 after a thorough screening exercise by the Agency, in conjunction with officials of the affected Local Government Areas on Lagos Island, to ascertain the real beneficiaries.

He further stated that the Centre is an open camp since residents can go out for their daily business, while free transportation is also provided on a daily basis for children to and from their schools to avoid disruption of their education.

The General Manager also expressed gratitude to donor Agencies and faith-based organisations who have been donating relief assistance to the victims, revealing that the Agency is also partnering with social workers to counsel the victims in order to reintegrate them back to the society after the life in the Camp.

The Representative of the Director-General and Board Member of NIMASA, Hajia Lami Tumaka, while presenting the relief items to the victims, commiserated with them on the unfortunate incident, saying that the gesture is part of their social responsibilities to victims of disasters.

Speaking on behalf other residents in the Centre, Mrs. Risikat Olorunosebi showered encomiums on the State as well as the Federal Government for their responsiveness in alleviating their suffering with the free stay at the Centre and donation of relief materials.
