SUBEB SECRETARY, PARENTS COMMEND CONDUCT OF LAGOS UNIFIED EXAMINATION

The Board Secretary of State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, Lagos State Mrs. Foluso Ajimoti and parents of some pupils who sat for the Unified Examination for admission into secondary schools across the State have expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination which took place on Saturday, July 27, 2019.

Attesting that the examinations were hitch-free across the State, Ajimoti said that the conduct of parents, examiners and the pupils were not just commendable but shows that the State Government made adequate preparations for the examination.

Ajimoti, who addressed journalists after a tour of some of the examination centres in Mainland, Somolu and Kosofe areas, said that the huge number of pupils who sat for this year’s edition of the annual examination shows the wide acceptability of government-owned schools.

She disclosed that 160,000 primary six pupils from both public and private schools sat for the examination in 348 examination centres across the six Education Districts in all the Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of the State.

According to her, the State government also made special provision for some of the pupils who are physically challenged in one way or the other as well as pupils with special needs.

“Going by my assessment of the schools visited thus far, it is evident that the pupils were well attended to in a conducive examination environment, there were enough examination papers and this is an improvement on what we have experienced in the past”, the Board Secretary stated.

She assured parents of students in secondary schools of increased improvements in public schools, saying that the present administration under the leadership Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu prioritises education and had already expressed readiness to address infrastructural deficit across government-owned schools in the State.

“As already stated by the State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the State Government will be using this vacation period to carry out renovation works in some identified schools in different areas of the State such that there would be appreciable improvement in these schools when pupils resume later in September this year”, Ajimoti said.

Also, some of the parents who spoke on the assessment of the examination in different centres where the examination took place, expressed satisfaction with the State government and the examiners for starting the examination as scheduled and for making adequate materials available to the school children.
