TESCOM URGES PRINCIPALS TO IMPROVE TEACHING PROFESSION

The Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs Olabisi Ariyo has urged Secondary School Principals in Lagos and other Southwest zones to improve the teaching profession by giving useful advice on state policies and programs, adding that as seasoned Educators, Administrators and Counsellors, they should be able to deliver on their mandate given their cognate experience.

She made the call during the opening ceremony of a three-day Zonal meeting of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), South West Bloc at the Lagos State NUT Pavilion, Central Business District. Alausa. Ikeja.

According to her, Teaching is universally regarded as a noble profession because teachers are the custodian of knowledge who moulds and shape minds, noting that all successful professionals in the world today are products of teachers.

In addition, she informed the gathering that principals are now being well recognized and considered for vital positions among policymakers in government, citing as examples, the appointments of Mr Maunu Jacob Ashaka, Mrs Sidikat Titilayo Smith and Mrs. Adeleke Kara as Board members in the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission.

While noting that the members of Lagos ANCOPPS were recently sponsored by the government to the National Conference in Sokoto State, Ariyo disclosed that TESCOM would continue to collaborate with and welcome suggestions from ANCOPPS from time to time, promising to ensure that the State Government accede to some of their requests.
